Why Join the Multifamily Council?
The NAHB Multifamily Council helps its members build expertise and connections, advocate for productive building policies and regulations, and prepare for new opportunities and unexpected problems. Members include developers, owners, investors, syndicators, lenders, service providers and public officials involved in multifamily housing development and investment.
Build Knowledge
NAHB offers a wide range of educational programs, including web seminars and replays, e-learning tools and presentations from the International Builders’ Show. Council members gain complimentary access to Multifamily Council webinars covering a variety of topics — from marketing trends to trending topics such as modular housing and the ‘missing middle’ of housing.
Multifamily Council members also receive discounted registration to webinars related to multifamily housing.
Members receive a monthly newsletter that keeps them informed about the latest legislative, regulatory and market developments affecting the multifamily industry.
Multifamily Housing Economic Analyses
Members have access to in-depth economic analyses for multifamily housing, including resources such as the quarterly presentations on multifamily housing market trends, the quarterly Multifamily Market Survey, NAHB Housing Portal and customized development economic impact reports, and a landmark study on the cost of multifamily regulations.
Development and Design Resource Materials
Members have access to a variety of resources related to multifamily development practices ranging from housing affordability, land use and community design, and sustainability and green building, including NAHB’s National Green Building Standard and Home Innovation Research Lab resources.
Make Connections
NAHB offers numerous events for multifamily members to meet throughout the year, including the annual International Builders’ Show (IBS) and NAHB Leadership Meetings.
Multifamily Council Meetings and Events at IBS
In addition to member meetings during IBS, the Multifamily Council hosts a three-day comprehensive education program and offers multiple networking and education opportunities within the Multifamily Central. IBS also features more than 600,000 square feet of building industry exhibits.
In addition to IBS, Multifamily Council members hold two other half-day meetings during the year as a part of the NAHB Spring and Fall Leadership meetings. Members discuss current issues and strategies for addressing industry problems. Council members can also attend numerous other committee meetings, such as the Federal Government Affairs Committee.
Numerous local NAHB builder associations have active multifamily memberships and/or local councils focused on multifamily housing, affordable housing, urban development, and/or infill development issues. Local members can form a local multifamily council if one is not available.
Celebrate Excellence
Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards
Multifamily Council members have access to information about award-winning developments and receive discounted application fees for the Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards. The Pillars Awards highlight creative development concepts, innovative financing strategies, great design, and superior management and marketing in the apartment and condo marketplace.
Advocate for Change
The NAHB Multifamily Council works closely with NAHB leadership and staff to advocate for sensible and productive policies and regulations at the national level that will benefit multifamily housing and housing generally, including issues ranging from housing finance reform to federal regulatory reform to reasonable building codes and safety regulations. Advocacy efforts include educating policymakers and the administration, building successful coalitions, and mobilizing our grassroots on a range of issues. NAHB is one of the most powerful housing advocates in Washington.
NAHB also engages with its local builder associations to advocate for sound policy on local issues such as rent control and inclusionary zoning. And NAHB’s legal team works on multifamily-related cases in state and federal courts, and also offers free ordinance reviews for members.
