Builders, Associates and Affiliates
NAHB serves the entire home building, development and remodeling industry. To become a member of NAHB, you must join the local home builders association (HBA) serving your area.
About one-third of NAHB’s members are home builders, multifamily developers, and/or remodelers, while the remaining two-thirds work in closely related fields such as mortgage financing and building products.
When you join your local association, you automatically become a member of all three levels of the NAHB Federation: local, state (where state associations exist), and national. That’s three memberships for the price of one!
Builder Members
Builders are the heart and soul of NAHB. Builder members are directly involved in building homes. They include small-volume builders, production builders, light commercial builders and remodelers.
According to NAHB’s 2018 annual builder member census:
- 61% of NAHB’s builder members are primarily single-family builders
- 22% are residential remodelers
- 5% each are commercial builders and multifamily builders
- 4% are land developers
- 1% each are commercial remodelers and manufacturers of modular/panelized/log homes
In 2018, builder members had a median of five employees on payroll, which has remained unchanged since 2015.
Associate Members
Associates are home building industry’s suppliers, service providers and product manufacturers support the industry in many different capacities and are a vital component of the association.
Joining NAHB is an opportunity for Associates to network and spotlight the products and services they provide to builders and remodelers, learn more about the industry and help promote a positive economic and regulatory environment for home building and related businesses.
The International Builders’ Show, Associate Premiere Partners’ Club and NAHB social media sites are just a handful of the relationship-building opportunities available to members of NAHB.

Affiliate Members
Affiliates are the employees of Builder and Associate members who reap the rewards of NAHB membership at a fraction of the cost. Not every HBA offers affiliate memberships, so please check with your local association for availability.
